Generals Fall Twice to No. 13 MACU in Doubleheader

ALEXANDRIA, La. – The Louisiana State University of Alexandria dropped both ends of its doubleheader against No. 13 Mid-America Christian University.

"We got down pretty big," LSUA Head Coach Kody Gautreaux said. "Our pitching staff didn't throw enough strikes to keep us in games. In the sixth inning [of game one], we strung together a bunch of really good at-bats. Ultimately, it was stuff that happened previously that led to us losing that game. Then game two, it's the same story. We didn't throw enough strikes and put our offense behind the eight-ball."

GAME ONE | No. 13 MACU 16, LSUA 13
A 12-run bottom of the sixth for the Generals (2-2) nearly brought the game back to tied, but the Evangles (3-1) held on for the victory.

MACU staked out a 6-0 lead over the first three innings. A throwing error in the bottom of the third brought in Lane Patin for the Generals' first run.

After Mid-America Christian University tacked on six runs in the fourth and the fifth, and the Generals being held hitless through five innings, LSUA exploded for 12 runs in the sixth. The inning was highlighted by home runs from Zach Mengarelli and Luke Benoit. Dezmon Dugas roped a two-run triple and Blaise Foote notched a two-run double. Jamari Valery and Dugas both added an RBI single.

Brenyn Ebarb (0-1) was charged with the loss. He allowed four runs, two hits, five walks, and struck out four. Mengarelli, Foote, Valery, and Dugas each recorded two hits.

GAME TWO | No. 13 MACU 13, LSUA 3
The Generals scored a run in three separate innings, but MACU's offense stayed hot in the backend of the doubleheader.

Austin Lorenz (0-1) was charged with the loss. Evan Rohlfs-Schadel recorded a pair of hits. Benoit drove in two runs.

LSUA's first run came in the second on a sacrifice fly from Benoit, scoring Valery. In the fourth, Benoit slipped a single into left field to drive in Josh Tinnerello. A fifth inning single from Dugas brough Mengarelli in from third.
