NEW ORLEANS – The Louisiana State University of Alexandria baseball fell to Loyola New Orleans, 4-2, despite a late rally.
"The game went about what we expected," LSUA Head Coach Kody Gautreaux said. "Both arms gave their team a chance to win, but one inning from them was the difference. I'm proud of our guys for the entire game and we're excited to get back out there tomorrow."
Josh Pierce (1-1) hurled six innings and allowed four runs on three hits. He struck out five hitters.
Keegan Garcia recorded a pair of hits and finished 2-for-3.
Lane Patin had the Generals (2-3) only RBI.
Dezmon Dugas and Josh Tinerello each scored a run.
Shae Thibodeaux tossed two innings of scoreless relief.
The Wolf Pack (1-0) opened the scoring in the second inning with a two-run home run. They added a third run in the second on a single through the left side.
In the third inning, a fielder's choice brought home a run for the Wolf Pack, giving them a 4-0 lead.
LSUA was held scoreless until the seventh inning. Tinnerello led off the inning with a triple to right center. A one-out sac fly to right from Patin brought him in from third, cutting the score to 3-1.
The Generals added another run in the ninth. A one-out single from Dugas and a walk from Tinnerello put runners on first and second. Dugas advanced to third on a fly out to right field and dashed home on a passed ball, which also advanced Tinnerello to second. The Wolf Pack picked up a strike out to prevent further damage and seal the 4-2 victory.
The Purple and Gold are back in action on Saturday, February 1, at 1:00 PM for a doubleheader at Loyola.
