Generals Cage Tigers, 80-69

ALEXANDRIA, La. – The Louisiana State University of Alexandria women's basketball team capture their fifth straight win with an 80-69 victory over Paul Quinn College in Red River Athletic Conference play.

"I thought we did a good job," LSUA Head Coach Billy Perkins said. "Offensively we were still a little out of continuity. We had 22 offensive rebounds and that's what stood out to us. Amani [Gray] had five blocks. Very proud our team and how we responded."

The Generals (16-5, 13-4 RRAC) were led by Dannah Martin-Hartwick. The senior guard recorded 19 points. Jewel Jones and Benedetta Peracchi recorded 17 points each. Peracchi notched her sixth double-double of the season, hauling in 11 rebounds. Justice Young also reached double-digit boards with 10.

LSUA recorded 26 points in the paint, seven points off turnovers, 17 second chance points, and the bench chipped in 15 points. Four of the five starters for the Purple and Gold logged 30 minutes or more.

After trailing for the opening six minutes, consecutive baskets from Traeshira Harry tied the game at 10-10. The Tigers took a brief lead with a layup, but a three from Jones put the Generals back on top. Young added a three-point play in the final minute of the opening quarter, sending LSUA into the second with a 16-12 edge.

LSUA pushed the advantage to seven early in the second, but Paul Quinn knocked it down to two, 23-21, with 5:21 on the clock. A pair of free throws from Peracchi and a three from Martin-Hartwick made it 28-21 Generals.  The Tigers stayed within striking distance, cutting the gap to three with just under 90 seconds left. A layup from Harry on the Generals' final possession of the second quarter sent them into the locker room with a 32-27 lead at halftime.

The score remained close for the first three-and-a-half minutes of the third quarter. Just a three-point ballgame, a layup from Young made it 40-35 in favor of the Purple and Gold. She tallied another bucket 50 seconds later, before a three from Martin-Hartwick gave the Generals their first 10-point lead of the contest, 45-35.

Paul Quinn chipped away at LSUA's lead with a 13-4 run, bringing the game within one point, 49-48, with 1:09 left in the third. A three from Martin-Hartwick stymied the Tigers' momentum heading into the final stanza.

Starting the fourth the same way she ended the third, Martin-Hartwick drained a three for a 55-48 lead. The Tigers again pulled within one, 56-55, with 6:54 left in regulation. A pair of threes from Peracchi and Jones helped LSUA reestablish a five-point lead, 62-57.

Paul Quinn pulled within three with 1:27 left on the clock, 70-67. A pair of free throws from Martin-Hartiwick gave the Generals' a two-possession lead. Alexis Dyer then converted a layup for a 74-67 edge. On LSUA's next possession, Peracchi knocked down a jumper with 19 seconds left, sealing the Generals' victory.

The Purple and Gold are back in action on Saturday, Feburary 1, as they host the University of the Southwest (N.M.). Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 PM at The Fort.
