Generals Tame Mustangs, 83-67

ALEXANDRIA, La. – The Louisiana State University of Alexandria women's basketball team recorded an 83-67 victory over the University of the Southwest (N.M.).

"Really proud of our group," LSUA Head Coach Billy Perkins said.  "We've been focusing on getting better continuity on offense and it's slowly coming together. We played hard the whole game, but we had 21 assists as a team, these girls are very selfless."

Five Generals (17-5, 14-4 RRAC) finished with 10 or more points. Benedetta Peracchi and Jewel Jones recorded 14 points each. Amani Gray tallied 12, while Alexis Dyer and Reese Stephens each added 11. Peracchi shot 75% from the floor, while both Dyer and Stephens finished 4-for-7. LSUA recorded 34 points in the paint, 18 points off turnovers, and the bench recorded 25 points.

The Generals opened the game with a 12-0 run over the first four-and-a-half minutes. Dyer, Jones, and Peracchi combined for points during the run. The Mustangs (11-10, 7-10 RRAC) pulled back within three at the end of the first quarter, staging an 18-9 run, 21-18.

Southwest's run continued into the second quarter as the Mustangs pulled ahead 26-23, before a three from Jones tied the score at 26-26. Gray knocked down a layup in the paint, giving LSUA a 28-26 lead. The score swapped between the Mustangs and Generals, but as the buzzer sounded for halftime, it was even 34-34.

In the first 5:15 of the third quarter, LSUA opened a 10-point lead, 50-40. The 16-6 run featured buckets from Jones, Gray, Stephens, and Dannah Martin-Hartwick. Jones went a perfect 3-for-3 from long range in the third quarter. Stephens tallied a 3-for-4 mark. The Generals shot 62.5% as a team in the penultimate period and outscored Southwest 24-16.

It was more of the same for LSUA in the fourth quarter. They outscored the Mustangs 25-17 and shot 53.8% from the floor. The Generals were sent to the charity stripe 16 times and converted on 10 of their chances.

The Purple and Gold extended their lead to double digits for the final time with 4:41 left on the clock. A three from Gray gave the Generals a 12-point lead, 70-58.

LSUA is back in action on Thursday, February 6, as they travel to North American University. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 PM.
