LECOMPTE, La. – The No. 21 Louisiana State University of Alexandria softball team picked up a pair of victories over Central Christian, 8-1, and Central Baptist, 5-3.
"Overall it was a great opening day when you get two wins," LSUA Head Coach Trent Partridge said. "I think we are a lot better of a team than we showed today. This is the type of team you can't miss one through nine. We had some really bad at-bats and we harp on the negative right now in the early part of the season, but we won two games and I'm happy about that."
GAME ONE | LSUA 8, CCC 1
The Generals (2-0) recorded 10 hits against the Tigers (0-1), including a pair of home runs.
Alyssa Soileau and
Haley Fontenot (1-0) combined to allow just two hits and one earned run in the circle.
Soileau threw three innings and allowed one hit. She struck out four. Fontenot allowed one run and one hit over four innings. She struck out three.
At the plate, Fontenot went 2-for-3 with a home run and two runs batted in. She scored three runs as well.
Jillian Howell went 2-for-2, drove in four, scored twice, and hit her first home run of the season.
Kaetlyn Dunbar and Soileau each recorded a pair of hits.
The Generals scored their first run with a double steal in the first inning. A batter later, Howell launched a three-run blast to left center for a 4-0 lead.
In the second inning, Soileau led off with a single to right. Fontenot then launched a two-run blast of her own for a 6-0 edge. Later in the inning, a double down the left field line from Howell drove in
Julia Kwakernaak.
The Tigers scored their only run of the contest in the fourth on a wild pitch.
LSUA's final run came in the bottom of the sixth.
Kassidy Tucker drove in Fontenot with an RBI groundout to put the Purple and Gold ahead 8-1.
GAME TWO | LSUA 5, CBC 3
Haley Primrose (1-0) went the distance for the Generals. She tossed seven innings and allowed three runs on four hits. Primrose struck out nine. Kwakernaak led the Generals' offense with a pair of solo home runs.
Molly Sistrunk went 1-for-3 with an RBI.
Kamille Lightfoot also notched a hit and scored a run. Kwakernaak and Fontenot both recorded a pair of hits.
Kwakernaak's first home run of the season came in the bottom of the second inning. Later in the inning, the Generals scored on a throwing error by the Mustangs (0-1) shortstop. Soileau came around to score on a passed ball for a 3-0 lead. Sistrunk brought around Lightfoot, who reached on an infield single for the fourth LSUA run of the second inning.
In the bottom of the third, Kwakernaak launched her second one-out solo home run of the contest, giving LSUA a 5-0 lead.
The Mustangs scored their runs on a pair of home runs, the first a two-run shot in the fourth and the second a solo home run in the sixth.

LSUA is back in action on Saturday, February 1, as they take on McPherson College at Champions Park. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
