SHREVEPORT, LA – Alexia Bermejo Jo scored a pair of goals but the Louisiana State University of Alexandria women's soccer team fell to LSU Shreveport, 5-3.
The Generals (9-7-0, 6-2-0 RRAC) recorded eight shots, five of which were on goal. The Pilots (10-5-0, 9-0-0 RRAC) tallied 10 shots and put six on frame.
"Really disappointing result today," LSUA Head Coach
Mark Hammond said. "We dominated the first half and we deserved our lead. We didn't show a good account of ourselves in the second half and we let the momentum get away from us. We finished the game well, but it was a little too late. The overall performance was decent but we have to look at the spell in hte second half and demand more from ourselves in those tough moments."
Bermejo scored the first two goals of the game to give LSUA a 2-0 advantage. The first came in the fifth minute. A throw-in from
Justice Richardson found Sara Escribano Garcia-Miguel, who chipped a pass to Bermejo. Her second goal came on a penalty in the 20
th minute.
The Pilots scored five unanswered goals, four of which came in the second half.
The score line stayed 2-0 until the 34
th minute. Jade Derks pulled the Pilots back within one with a penalty.
LSU Shreveport netted the equalizer in the 50
th minute off the boot of Halee Hernandez. Ten minutes later, Ashley Moore put the Pilots ahead 3-2. Hernandez added a second marker in the 69
th minute before Diana Leon added the final goal in the 76
th minute.
Jacqui Guillermo cut the deficit to 5-3 in the 82
nd minute and the Generals generated chances but could not find the back of the net. They hit the crossbar twice in the 85
th minute and had three corners but the Pilots' defense held.
LSUA hosts Louisiana Christian on Saturday, October 24, at 1:00 PM at the Generals Soccer Field.
