TEXARKANA, TX - The two-seeded Louisiana State University of Alexandria men's soccer team lost in the Red River Athletic Conference Championship Semifinal to Xavier University (La.), 2-1.
A tightly-contested game both the Generals (14-3-1) and the Gold Rush (12-4-2) finished with 11 shots. Ivan Capurro made a pair of saves in goal for LSUA.
The Generals struck just four-and-a-half minutes in. Diego Cadabon redirected a ball in the six from Zac le Stavri for a 1-0 lead.
In the 17th minute, Capurro was called into action. He turned aside a chance from Iman Ouedraogo.
Pablo Dominguez de Leon sent a shot goalwards four minutes later and was stymied by Breno Zanolla.
Antonio Merola equalized in the 35th minute for Xavier to send the game into halftime tied at 1-1.
A quick offensive from the Gold Rush generated a goal from inside the 18 from Diego Pacheco and a 2-1 XULA lead.
Ouedraogo searched for an insurance goal at 59:49, but a stop from Capurro kept the game at 2-1.
Four minutes later, Federico Gilardi launched a shot on goal that was met by Zanolla.
Gilardi's chance was the last on-goal shot for LSUA until Maximo Romagnoli's 83rd minute chance - which was stopped by Zanolla as XULA held on for the win.'
