Women's Basketball Takes Down Louisiana Christian, 81-70, in Red River Rivalry

PINEVILLE, LA – The Louisiana State University of Alexandria women's basketball team opened Red River Athletic Conference play with an 81-70 win over Red River Rival Louisiana Christian.

Princis Goff recorded a team-high 16 points in her return to the H.O. West Fieldhouse as a General (2-4, 1-0 RRAC). Justice Young (15), Sydney Person (13), and Kelly Norris all finished with double digit points. Young notched a double-double with 11 rebounds, a team-high. Norris dished out a team-high seven assists. Reese Stephens recorded six steals and four assists.

"It's tough playing a rivalry game right at the start of conference," LSUA Head Coach Billy Perkins said. "LC did a good job with their aggressiveness, they rebound well, but we executed when we needed to."

LSUA notched 49 rebounds, 19 of which were offensive. They dished out 22 assists as a team and snagged 17 steals.

"We've been preaching offensive rebounds, steals, and assists all year," Perkins noted. "That's the best ball movement we've had all year. Very proud of everybody."

Carlea Owens (19) and Maddison Carey (18) led the Wildcats (1-6, 0-1 RRAC) in scoring.

The Generals out scored Louisiana Christian in three of the four quarters. They gained their largest lead of the evening in the final stanza with a layup from Courtlynn Rideau with 3:44 to play, giving LSUA a 79-61 lead.

LSUA scored 27 points off turnovers, 42 points in the paint, and recorded 13 second chance points.  There were only two lead changes in the game but the Wildcats managed to tie the game on four occasions.

Young scored the game's first basket to put the Purple and Gold ahead and LSUA climbed out to a 10-point lead in the first four-and-a-half minutes. The Wildcats clawed their way back to just a three-point difference at the period's close.

Louisiana Christian took their only lead of the game deep into the second quarter, 31-29, on a jumper from Jakiya Thompson. A three from Goff flipped the score back in favor of LSUA, 32-31, and the Generals never relinquished the lead.

The Generals are on the road again next Thursday, December 4, as they head to North American University in Houston, Texas for their second RRAC game of the campaign. Tip-off is set for 5:30 PM.
