Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

(RV) Generals Wrangle Stallions, 71-64

STAFFORD, TX – The (RV) Louisiana State University of Alexandria men's basketball team held on for a 71-64 win over North American University in Red River Athletic Conference play.

"Really good job of being able to gut that win out," LSUA Head Coach Dimario Jackson said. "Some things didn't go our way, but really good job by our guys of being able to get it done defensively. We have to continue to get better!"

The contest featured 10 tied scores and eight lead changes.

PD McCraney led the Generals (5-3, 2-0 RRAC) with 15 points. EJ McQuillan (14), Courtney McCarthy (11), and TJ James (10) also finished in double digits. LSUA finished with a 40.3 field goal percentage and hauled in 47 rebounds. James led the rebounding efforts with nine. The Generals' bench recorded 44 points and LSUA scored 40 points in the paint.

The Stallions were led by Jamarric Hammond's 15 points. Tevin Gowens (12) and Syncere L Shaw (10) also recorded 10 or more points. NAU shot just 35.5 percent from the field.

North American University took its largest lead of the game just under five minutes into play with an 11-5 advantage. They held their lead for five minutes until a 6-0 run in favor of LSUA put the Generals ahead by one. The lead swung back and forth before the Stallions went up 24-19 with 7:15 to play in the first.

Another quick run for LSUA, this time 6-2 in favor of the Purple and Gold, closed the gap once more.

A three from McQuillan in the Generals' final possession of the half put LSUA behind by one, 40-39, headed into the break.

The Stallions once again reached a five-point differential early in the second. A three from McCraney and layup from McQuillan erased the gap and tied the game at 46-46.

After the lead changed hands a few more times, a layup from McCarthy put LSUA ahead for the final time with 9:46 remaining.

Free throws from Kheiri Haynes and McCarthy, as well a tip-in and three from McCarthy, down the stretch kept the Stallions at bay for the victory.

LSUA returns to The Fort next week for a pair of RRAC games against LSU Shreveport and Texas A&M-Texarkana.
