ALEXANDRIA, LA – The No. 1 Louisiana State University of Alexandria men's basketball team closes the regular season with a road contest against LSU Shreveport.
"Big Game for us on Thursday at Shreveport," LSUA Head Coach Dimario Jackson said. "They are talented, they have guys who can really score the basketball. It'll be a hostile environment, so we have to be sure we are focused. Defensively, we must execute the game plan. The word for this game is FINISH!"
The Generals (25-1, 22-1 RRAC) are riding a 19-game winning streak. They recorded a pair of wins last week over Our Lady of the Lake, 100-73, and Texas A&M-San Antonio, 97-67.
SCOUTING LSU SHREVEPORT
The Pilots are 17-10 on the season and 14-9 in Red River Athletic Conference play. They are 12-2 when playing at home.
LSU Shreveport averages 87.4 points per game and are shooting 49.7% from the floor. From beyond the arc, the Pilots are knocking down shots at a clip of 41.2%. Taj Anderson leads the Pilots' offense, averaging 20.3 points per game. The senior guard is knocking down 52% of his shots this season and 44.2% from beyond the three-point line. Davion Coleman (14.6), Trey Boston (12.4), Tyler Washington (12.0), and Melvion Flanagan (10.1) round out the double-digit scorers for LSUS. Coleman leads the Pilots in shooting, converting 53.4% of his chances.
Washington leads LSU Shreveport's rebounding efforts, averaging 5.8 boards per game. Meikkel Murray sits in second at 5.0. The Pilots are being out rebounded by a margin of five, 38.1 to 33.1. They are averaging two more steals per game than their opponents, however, 10.4 to 8.4. The Pilots are allowing 80.8 points per game.
The Generals captured a 109-75 victory over LSU Shreveport on January 4 in The Fort, during the first leg of the season. LSUA is 13-10 all-time against LSUS and have won the last three contests, but are 2-7 when playing away from home.
Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 20, in Shreveport, Louisiana.
