ALEXANDRIA, LA – The long ball propelled the No. 21 Louisiana State University of Alexandria softball team to a pair of run-rule victories over Jarvis Christian University (1-3, 0-2), 19-0 and 12-4.
"Overall, a great day," LSUA Head Coach Trent Partridge said. "Offensively, we really swung the bats. We knew today was going to be cold and it was a mentality of getting adapted to it and go at it. It was extremely tough for [our pitchers] to get a solid grip with the wind and cold today, but they were good."
GAME ONE | LSUA 19, JCU 0
The Generals (11-1, 4-0 RRAC) hit five homeruns in the opener, including a grand slam from
Haley Fontenot.
Haley Primrose (6-1) threw a complete game shutout. She allowed just two hits and one walk, while striking out eight. Primrose carried a no-hitter into the fourth inning, before surrendering the first Bulldogs' hit.
LSUA scored 11 runs in the first inning. Four runs came off of two homeruns, a three-run blast from
Molly Sistrunk and a solo shot from Fontenot.
The second inning saw more big flies from the LSUA bats. With runners on second and third,
Alyssa Soileau was hit by a pitch, loading the bases for Fontenot. She launched her second round tripper of the game, a grand slam, to put the Generals ahead 15-0.
Three batters later,
Julia Kwakernaak left the yard with a three-run blast of her own. Primrose then took a pitch deep for back-to-back jacks and a 19-0 lead.
Fontenot finished 3-for-3 with five RBI. Kwakernaak and Primrose both drove in three. Primrose also went 3-for-3 at the plate.
GAME TWO | LSUA 12, JCU 4
Rylie Jeau Theriot's walk-off RBI single in the fifth pushed the Generals' lead to eight, triggering the run rule in the back end of the doubleheader.
Soileau (4-0) earned the win in relief. She tossed two innings and allowed one unearned run on two hits. She struck out three and walked just one.
The Bulldogs scored first, plating a run on a sacrifice fly in the first. LSUA responded by scoring a pair in their half of the inning. The Generals then added six more runs in the second.
Kilee Moody drove in one on a sacrifice fly, Kwakernaak drove in one with a single,
Jillian Howell launched a two-run homerun, and
Madison Nelson drove in a pair with a double.
After the Bulldogs added a second run in the third,
Jenna Marler singled home a run in the fourth for an 11-2 lead. Jarvis Christian brought two runs around in the top of the fifth, temporarily avoiding the run rule.
In the bottom half of the fifth,
Summer Brumley reached on a one-out single down the first base line. She advanced to second on a groundout. Theriot's two-out knock brought Brumley around from second and triggered the eight-run rule.
