No. 21 Softball Falls to No. 14 William Carey

ALEXANDRIA, La. – The No. 21 Louisiana State University of Alexandria softball team fell to No. 14 William Carey University, 7-4.

"Not disappointed," LSUA Head Coach Trent Partridge said. "We did shoot ourselves in the foot. We gave them five runs in the first inning with an error and pitching wise we fell behind a bit and ran the pitch count up. You can't fall behind to the No. 14 team in the country, they'll make you pay for it. Personally, I thought we had better at-bats then they did, we barreled balls up. We have to eliminate the big first inning."

Haley Primrose (2-1) was charged with the loss. She tossed seven innings and allowed seven runs, just one earned, on nine hits. Primrose struck out seven and walked three. Haley Fontenot finished 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Kilee Moody recorded a pair of hits and drove in one. Jillian Howell and Alyssa Soileau each recorded a hit.

William Carey (1-0) exploded for five runs in the first inning. They scored on a trip of singles to center, a sacrifice fly to right, and a double to right center.

The Generals (3-1) scratched across a run in the bottom of the first on a ground out from Madi Baker to score Fontenot.

After the Crusaders tacked on another run in the third, LSUA scored three in their half of the inning. A single to right field from Fontenot brought home Molly Sistrunk from third. Moody followed with a single of her own, lacing the ball to right field and driving in Soileau. Julia Kwakernaak then reached on an error, allowing Fontenot to score for a 6-4 ballgame.

William Carey added another run in the fourth for a 7-4 lead. Both pitchers held the offenses in check for the remainder of the game.

LSUA is back in action on Friday, February 7, for a pair of games against US Sports Academy and Central Baptist. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 PM and 6:00 PM respectively.
