MARSHALL, Texas – The Louisiana State University of Alexandria baseball team held off Wiley University (TX), 10-8, in game one of a three-game series.
"It was a great team win with multiple guys giving us good at-bats and good innings on the mound," LSUA Head Coach Kody Gautreaux said. "I'm proud of this group's ability to stay in the moment today and we are excited to get back to the field tomorrow."
The Generals (12-7, 6-0 RRAC) went up 10-0 before an eight-run seventh inning from Wiley (11-8).
LSUA put up crooked numbers in the second, fifth, and seventh innings. They also pushed across one in the fourth.
Josh Pierce (3-2) tallied the win on the mound. He tossed six innings and allowed seven runs on eight hits. Pierce struck out four and walked two.
Shae Thibodeaux earned his first save of the season, slamming the door in the ninth with a strikeout.
Pierce cruised through the first six innings, allowing just three hits.
Things got hairy in the seventh. A lead-off homerun was the first of five consecutive hits and nine straight hitters reaching safely. A swinging strikeout slowed the Wildcats' offense before a pair of fielder's choices brought the Wildcats' offensive to an end.
Jaxon Bernard continued his hot streak at the plate, driving in a pair of runs with a two-run blast in the fifth. Bernard has gone 6-for-12 at the dish in his last five games with 10 runs batted in.
He wasn't the only General to leave the yard against the Wildcats.
Peyton Marcantel hit a solo shot in the fourth. Marcantel added an RBI double as part of LSUA's four-run seventh.
LSUA recorded 10 hits on the afternoon and seven different players drive in runs. Alongside Bernard and Marcantel,
Dezmon Dugas also drove in a pair.
The Generals play Wiley on Saturday, March 1, in a doubleheader at noon.
