ALEXANDRIA, LA – The Louisiana State University of Alexandria baseball team dropped the opening game of a three-game series against the University of the Southwest (N.M.), 14-2.
The Generals (13-13, 7-3 RRAC) managed five hits.
Blaise Foote drove in one run.
Josh Pierce (3-3) was charged with the loss.
Southwest (N.M.) (12-14, 3-8 RRAC) scored early and often. They scored six in the first, three of which came across on a three-run homerun. A three-run double in the second and another three-homerun in the third put the Mustangs ahead 12-1. Southwest tacked on two more runs in the top of the seventh.
Foote's RBI single in the bottom of the first was the Generals' only run until the fifth. A bases loaded double play allowed the second LSUA run to score.
Colin Ardoin threw 2.1 innings of shutout relief. He struck out one.
The Generals had base runners in every inning as they drew three walks and had three batters hit by a pitch alongside their five hits.
LSUA squares off with Southwest in a doubleheader to close the series tomorrow, March14. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
