Baseball's Comeback Bid Cut Short by No. 12 William Carey

ALEXANDRIA, LA – The Louisiana State University of Alexandria baseball team dropped a non-conference game to No. 12 William Carey University, 7-6.

The Generals (14-15) staged a late comeback, but it fell just short. Trailing 7-3 in the bottom of the ninth, LSUA scored three runs before the Crusaders (23-4) retired the side.

"It was competitive," LSUA Head Coach Kody Gautreaux said. "Those guys are balanced. They came in and did a good job of keeping us off balance. We were able to string together some at-bats and some runs. Right there at the end we had a chance to get it done and they made a good play on the ball and threw us out at home to end the game. William Carey is always tough to beat whether on the road or at home and it shows why they've been in the World Series for two years and consistently a Top 25 team."

Charlie Guidry (0-1) was charged with the loss. He allowed three runs over two innings on five hits.

Landon Langley and Keegan Garcia each recorded three hits. Judge Boudreaux notched a pair.

The Crusaders hit a pair of homeruns in the first two innings for a 3-0 lead. They extended it to 4-0 with an RBI triple in the fourth before LSUA scored its first run when Garcia scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the inning.

Boudreaux drove in Langley in the fifth with a single to left and Garcia followed with an RBI single of his own to pull within one, 4-3.

William Carey scored four runs over the next four innings for a 7-3 lead.

In the ninth, the Generals mounted a three-run inning. A one-out double from Boudreaux put runners on second and third after Jaxon Bernard was hit by a pitch. Garcia singled home Bernard and was followed by a sacrifice fly from Dezmon Dugas.

After Peyton Marcantel walked, and was lifted for a pinch runner, Brett Batteford doubled to left to drive in Garcia. The tying was cut down at the plate to end the game.

The Generals travel to No. 1 LSU Shreveport for a three-game series against the Pilots on Friday, March 21, and Saturday, March 22.
