ALEXANDRIA, LA – The No. 9 Louisiana State University of Alexandria softball team swept John Melvin University in a doubleheader, 14-6 and 8-0.
"We had to fight the weather today," LSUA Head Coach Trent Partridge said. "The wind was extremely bad, and we had to just stay locked in and find the middle of the ball. The first game wasn't the best but we locked in for the second game and did what we were supposed to."
GAME ONE | LSUA 14, JMU 6 (FIVE INNINGS)
A pair of big innings lifted the Generals (24-2) to victory in game one. They scored five in the first and seven in the fourth alongside a pair of runs in the third and fifth.
Haley Primrose (15-2) earned the win in the circle. She allowed six runs, four earned, on seven hits. Primrose struck out two.
Haley Fontenot,
Julia Kwakernaak,
Kaetlyn Dunbar, and
Kamille Lightfoot each recorded two hits. Primrose and Dunbar each drove in three.
Three RBI doubles highlighted LSUA's five-run first. Primrose, Sistrunk, and Lightfoot all collected a double in the inning.
The Milers (9-17) scored two runs in the second, three in the third, and one in the fourth.
Lightfoot recorded a second RBI double in the third inning, driving in the only LSUA run of the inning.
The doubles continued in the fourth for the Generals. They utilized three more RBI two-baggers as part of a seven-run inning.
In the fifth, Dunbar drove in the 14
th LSUA run with a single to center to walk-off the Millers.
GAME TWO | LSUA 8, JMU 0
Alyssa Soileau (8-0) shut out the Millers in the backend of the twin bill as the Generals run-ruled JMU for the sweep.
Soileau tossed a complete game shutout and struck out four. She allowed just three hits.
Kilee Moody, Kwakernaak, and Dunbar each tallied a pair of hits. Fontenot and Dunbar each drove in a pair of runs.
Dunbar opened the scoring in the first, driving in Fontenot with a single. A productive ground out and another RBI single from Dunbar in the third made it 3-0.
In the fourth, a sacrifice fly from Fontenot, an RBI single from Moody, and an RBI double from Kwakernaak plated runs.
After
Rylie Jeau Theriot drove in run seven with a sacrifice fly in the fifth, Aliyah Marrero walked the Generals off in the sixth with a single to drive in
Lorena Williams.

The Generals head to New Orleans on Tuesday, March 25, to take on Xavier (La.) in a Red River Athletic Conference doubleheader.
