RESERVE, LA – The No. 9 Louisiana State University of Alexandria softball team swept Xavier University (La.) in a Red River Athletic Conference doubleheader, 5-1 and 11-8.
"It's awesome to come down here and get two wins," LSUA Head Coach Trent Partridge said. "I didn't really like the way we played but anytime you can get two wins in conference is awesome.
GAME ONE | LSUA 5, XULA 1
The Generals (26-2, 10-0 RRAC) scored all five of their runs in the final two innings.
Haley Primrose (16-2) earned the win. She tossed a compete game and allowed just one unearned run on two hits. She struck out nine hitters.
Haley Fontenot,
Julia Kwakernaak, and
Alyssa Soileau recorded two hits each.
The Gold Nuggets (10-10, 6-8 RRAC) scored their only run in the first.
Kaetlyn Dunbar drove the first LSUA run across in the sixth with a double to right center. Three batters later, Soileau laced a single up the middle to drive in
Kamille Lightfoot and Dunbar.
In the seventh, Kwakernaak drove in
Kilee Moody with an infield single. A sacrifice fly from Lightfoot brought
Madi Baker home for a 5-1 lead.
Primrose rolled a pair of ground outs before retiring the final hitter with a swinging strikeout.
GAME TWO | LSUA 11, XULA 8
The Generals' offense went to work early in game two. They scored in each of the first five innings.
Soileau (9-0) nabbed the win. She tossed five innings and allowed five eared runs. Soileau struck out three and walked just one. Primrose recorded the save in relief. She allowed just one hit over two innings of work.
LSUA hit five homeruns, including one inside the park homerun. The Generals totaled 16 hits.
A pair of first inning big flies from Baker and Dunbar put LSUA ahead 3-0. Rylie Jeau Therior then drove in a pair with a single to right center field for a 5-0 lead.
In the second, Kwakernaak hit her first homerun of the game to left field.
The Gold Nuggets pushed across a pair of runs in the second before
Jillian Howell launched a solo shot in the third.
Kwakernaak's second homerun came in the fourth. She roped a ball down the right field line and scampered around the bases for an inside the park homerun.
After XULA plated a pair in the bottom of the fourth, an RBI single from Fontenot made it 10-4 LSUA. The Gold Nuggets pushed across four in the fifth, pulling within two, 10-8.
Primrose held XULA scoreless in the final two frames and doubled home an insurance run in the seventh for the 11-8 victory.
