No. 9 Softball Takes Two From UHV

ALEXANDRIA, LA – The No. 9 Louisiana State University of Alexandria softball team swept a Red River Athletic Conference doubleheader against the University of Houston-Victoria, 9-4 and 6-5.

"Today was not the norm," LSUA Head Coach Trent Partridge said. "We had to pull tarp, things that kept us out of the routine of softball – your daily routine of going to the cages and doing those kinds of things – to get the field ready. I was extremely pleased with the way the girls came out."

The Generals (28-2, 12-0 RRAC) have now won 15 consecutive games.

GAME ONE | LSUA 9, UHV 4
Kaetlyn Dunbar drove in six runs in two innings in the opening game. A second inning three-run homerun put the Generals ahead 3-0. In her next at-bat in the third inning, Dunbar roped a double to right center, clearing the bases to drive in three more.

It is the third most runs driven in by a single player in a game in LSUA history. She ties Haley Fontenot, Priscilla Leon, Raquel Granados, and Julinn Torres with the feat. Fontenot recorded six runs batted in last season on April 25, 2024 against Jarvis Christian. Leon drove in six in 2016 against Texas Wesleyan. Granados and Torres both drove in six in 2016 against Our Lady of the Lake and Concordia, respectively. Jessica Pocorello and Sloane Laiche hold the LSUA single game record with eight driven in. Pocorello recorded her eight-RBI game against Dillard on March 29, 2010, while Laiche's came on February 15, 2009 against Northwood.

Dunbar finished 3-for-3 and also scored three times. She came around to score after her double in the third on a single by Molly Sistrunk. In the fifth, she crossed home plate on a two-run homerun by Kamille Lightfoot.

Haley Primrose (17-2) went the distance for her 17th win of the season. She allowed six hits, four runs, two walks, and struck out six.

The Jaguars (19-15, 11-5 RRAC) scored three runs in the fifth, two came on a homerun. They added another in the seventh on an RBI double.

GAME TWO | LSUA 6, UHV 5
A late rally from the UHV was put to a stop by Primrose for her third save of the season.

The Generals jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Madi Baker drove in Fontenot on a sacrifice fly. Primrose then doubled home Julia Kwakernaak and Kilee Moody. In the third inning, Primrose launched a solo homerun for a 4-0 advantage. A single to left from Sistrunk brought Jillian Howell in to score and extended LSUA's lead to five.

After the Jaguars tallied a pair of runs in the fourth, both offenses went quiet until the sixth. An RBI single from Baker made it 6-2 in favor of the Purple and Gold.

A one-out double in the top of the seventh started the Jaguars' comeback effort. The double was followed by an infield single. A walk loaded the bases and brought the tying run to the plate.

Primrose came on in relief and struck out the first hitter she faced for the inning's second out. Back-to-back singles drove in a trio of runs and placed the tying run on second. Primrose forced a routine fly ball to right to secure her third save and the victory.
