Softball Splits on Day One of Gulf Shores Invitational

GULF SHORES, AL – The No. 15 Louisiana State University of Alexandria softball team split its first two games of the Gulf Shores Invitational against No. 7 University of the Cumberlands and College of Saint Mary (Neb.).

"Overall, not too disappointed with the day," LSUA Head Coach Trent Partridge said. "We finished 1-1 and I told the girls I take responsibility for the loss. After a 10-day layoff, I chose to prioritize getting live at-bats and that may have left us less prepared at the plate than we should have been. In game two, we had some quality at-bats and started finding our rhythm again. Looking forward to the rest of the weekend and getting back into the flow of playing."

GAME ONE | CUMBERLANDS 8, LSUA 0 (SIX INNINGS)
The Patriots (12-5) held the Generals (14-2, 6-0 RRAC) to just two hits in LSUA's opening game.

Kilee Moody and Molly Sistrunk were the only Generals to record hits.  In the circle, Haley Primrose (8-2) was charged with the loss. She tossed 5.2 innings.

Cumberlands pushed across three runs in the third before a grand slam in the fourth extended their lead to 7-0. An RBI single in the sixth ended the contest.

GAME TWO | LSUA 13, CSM 4 (FIVE INNINGS)
Alyssa Soileau (5-0) earned the win in the circle in the Generals' second game, while Madi Baker drove in five runs as LSUA took down the Flames 13-4.

Soileau went three innings in the circle and allowed just one run on one hit. She struck out one.

Baker finished 3-for-3 at the plate. She drove in two and scored a pair of runs. Baker had an RBI single in the first and another in the second. Primrose came off the bench in the fourth and smashed a three-run homerun.

The Generals recorded 14 hits in the game, including multi-hit efforts from Baker, Kaetlyn Dunbar, Moody, and Rylie Jeau Theriot.

All four of the Flames' (2-8) runs came in the fifth.

LSUA scored in every inning, putting up crooked numbers in the first, second, and fourth innings. Alongside Baker's RBI single in the first, a two-run triple from Dunbar and RBI doubles from Jillian Howell and Sistrunk marked the Generals' scoring in the bottom of the first.
