SAN ANTONIO, TX – The No. 6 Louisiana State University of Alexandria softball team split its Red River Athletic Conference doubleheader against No. 10 Our Lady of the Lake University, 2-0 and 10-4.
"Extremely proud of the girls," said LSUA Head Coach Trent Partridge. "We played a great game one, even though it didn't go our way. In game two, we came out swinging and proved we belong in the conversation as one of the top teams in the NAIA. There are still some big games ahead, but we now control our own destiny when it comes to the regular season conference championship."
GAME ONE | No. 10 OLLU 2, No. 6 LSUA 0
The Generals (34-4, 17-1 RRAC) were held to just two hits as the Saints (37-7, 23-1 RRAC) slipped past LSUA 2-0.
Haley Primrose (18-4) struck out four and allowed two earned runs on seven hits.
Kilee Moody and
Julia Kwakernaak had the Generals' only hits. Moody also drew a walk.
Primrose averted danger in the bottom of the second. She rolled a pair of ground outs with the bases loaded to keep the game scoreless. LSUA was held hitless through three innings until a single from Moody in the fourth.
The Saints drove in their first run in the fourth on an RBI single. A solo homerun in the bottom of the sixth made it 2-0.
LSUA was retired in order in the seventh to end the game.
GAME TWO | No. 6 LSUA 10, No. 10 OLLU 4
The Generals rallied from down three to take the win in game two.
Our Lady of the Lake scored three runs in the first inning for an early 3-0 lead.
A two-run blast from Primrose in the second cut OLLU's lead to 3-2. The Generals then exploded for five runs in the third for a 7-3 lead. A passed ball allowed
Haley Fontenot to score, tying the game at 3-3. Kwakernaak then drove in Moody with a single. A sacrifice bunt from Primrose brought in Baker, before
Jillian Howell laced a single to center to score
Kaetlyn Dunbar.
Two innings later, the long ball came into play again. Howell launched a three-run blast to center for a 10-3 advantage.
The Saints got a run back in the sixth, but Primrose minimized the damage. She tossed three innings of relief and allowed one run on two hits.
Kirsten Martinez (2-0) earned the win in relief. She went 2.2 innings of hitless work for the victory.
Primrose, Dunbar, and Howell each recorded a pair of hits. Howell drove in four, while Primrose plated three.
