No. 6 Softball Splits With TAMUSA

SAN ANTONIO, TX – The No. 6 Louisiana State University of Alexandria softball team split a Red River Athletic Conference doubleheader with Texas A&M-San Antonio, 9-1 and 9-7.

"We knew today would be tough," said LSUA Head Coach Trent Partridge. "Playing back-to-back days in the South Texas heat and coming off an emotional win against OLLU. We'll learn from this and come back stronger than ever. One thing I loved was how the girls fought back after we put ourselves in a hole. One loss doesn't define our season. It stings in the moment because of the implications of it, but as I told the team, we're one of the best in the country. We just have to stay locked in for the rest of the season and carry that focus into the postseason."

GAME ONE | LSUA 9, TAMUSA 1
The Generals (35-5, 18-2 RRAC) scored multiple runs in the final three innings to trigger a run-rule victory.

Haley Primrose (19-4) earned the win with a complete game. She tossed six innings and allowed just one run on five hits.

Kaetlyn Dunbar drove in three runs, while five other players drove in one. Dunbar finished 2-for-4 at the plate. Madi Baker collected three hits. The Generals tallied 13 hits.

The Jaguars (17-23, 10-12 RRAC) scored their lone run in the third for a 1-0 lead.

A single from Dunbar in the fourth plated both Julia Kwakernaak and Baker. Molly Sistrunk then singled home Dunbar before Alyssa Soileau followed suit with an RBI single of her own. A throwing error on the play allowed Sistrunk to score as well for a 5-1 advantage.

In the fifth, a sacrifice fly from Kwakernaak and an RBI single from Dunbar drove in two more runs. The Generals added two more in the sixth on an RBI single from Kilee Moody and a double from Baker.

GAME TWO | TAMUSA 9, LSUA 7
The Jaguars got the better of the Generals in game two. They scored in every inning, including a three-run first.

Soileau (13-1) was charged with her first loss of the season. She allowed six runs on 10 hits over 3.1 innings.

The Generals once again finished with 13 hits. Haley Fontenot and Jillian Howell both recorded three. Howell drove in three runs as well. Rylie Jeau Theriot finished 2-for-4 and drove in a pair.

A sacrifice fly from Baker in the top of the first gave LSUA a 1-0 lead, but TAMUSA responded with three runs of their own in the bottom half. An RBI single from Fontenot and a solo homerun from Howell in the second tied the game at 3-3.

The Jaguars scored on three RBI singles and an RBI double over the next four innings to take an 8-3 lead.

In the top of the sixth, Howell doubled home Dunbar and Theriot blasted a two-run homerun to pull within two, 8-6.

A wild pitch in the bottom of the sixth allowed TAMUSA to take a 9-6 lead.

Howell laced an RBI single in the seventh, but the Jaguars stymied the Generals' comeback bid.
