Baseball Falls in Opener to UHV

VICTORIA, TX – The Louisiana State University of Alexandria baseball team dropped the opening game of their final regular season series against the University of Houston-Victoria, 15-6.

"We didn't get the result we wanted but that's the game we play," LSUA Head Coach Kody Gautreaux said. "Vice didn't have his best stuff, and they were able to score a bunch early but big innings by Charlie Guidry and Shae Thibodeaux kept the game within reach, but our offense was never able to get any momentum going. We will get some rest tonight and come out and compete again tomorrow.

Will Vice (4-3) was charged with the loss. He allowed nine runs over 1.2 innings of work. The start was Vice's 14th of the season, tying the LSUA single season record.

The Generals (23-24, 16-12 RRAC) collected six hits, all from different players. Jaxon Bernard drove in a pair, while Julien Kliebert and Blaise Foote each drove in one.

Houston-Victoria (35-13, 20-8 RRAC) scored 10 runs in the first three innings, including six in the second.

LSUA's first run came on a single to center from Kliebert in the top of the third. Lane Patin then came around to score on a wild pitch.

In the fifth, Foote was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to force in a run. Bernard followed with a two-run single through the right side for the Generals' final runs of the game.

The Generals take on UHV in a doubleheader tomorrow, April 26, at noon in Victoria, Texas.
