CROWLEY, LA – The Louisiana State University of Alexandria baseball team took down John Melvin University in a non-conference game, 16-12.
Julien Kliebert swiped three bases and now has 78 for his career at LSUA (20-20). Kliebert sits atop the LSUA all-time leaderboard as the Generals' most prolific base stealer.
"Kliebert has been consistent at picking times to steal," Said LSUA Head Coach Kody Gautreaux. "Since he was a freshman, we knew he had the instincts and speed to put up high numbers. Even when guys started to hold him, he figured out ways to put up numbers. I'm proud of him for this individual accomplishment and happy to be a part of it."
The senior outfielder put up 22 stolen bases during his freshman season in 2021. He stole nine bases in 2022, before nabbing a career high 29 in 2023. An injury shortened his 2024 campaign after three swiped bags. Kliebert's three stolen bases against John Melvin University brings him to 15 on the year.
Kliebert move ahead of Logan Constantine who previously held the LSUA career record with 69.
Blaise Foote (1-0) earned the win for LSUA. He tossed five innings on the bump and allowed seven runs on seven hits. He struck out three and did not issue a free pass.
Colin Ardoin earned his first save. He threw 2.2 innings and allowed just two hits and one walk, while striking out two.
After a 6-0 lead for LSUA in the top of the first, capped by a three-run homerun from
Peyton Marcantel, the Millers (19-18) scored seven over their first two innings at the plate for a 7-6 lead.
A sacrifice fly from
Lane Patin in the third tied the game at 7-7 before a fielding error allowed
Keegan Garcia and Ardoin to score for a 9-7 edge. LSUA tacked on runs for a 14-7 lead through six innings.
The Millers scored five in the seventh, narrowing the deficit to two, 14-12. A two-run single from Foote gave the Generals a bit of breathing room, 16-12.
Ardoin struck out the last two hitters of the ballgame to slam the door.
The Generals travel to Jarvis Christian University for a three-game RRAC series on Friday, April 11, and Saturday, April 12.
