Softball Advances to Face Top-Seeded OLLU With 9-5 Victory Over TAMUT

PINEVILLE, LA – The two-seeded Louisiana State University of Alexandria softball team took down Texas A&M-Texarkana, 9-5, in the Second Round of the Red River Athletic Conference Championship.

"Super excited to get the win," said LSUA Head Coach Trent Partridge. "Hats off to Texarkana. To be able to come in and get another top 25 win added to our resume, kudos to our girls."

Seven runs in the first two innings propelled the Generals (45-5) over the Eagles (39-9). LSUA put up a pair in the first and tallied five in the second.

A sacrifice fly in the top of the first gave TAMUT a 1-0 lead. The Generals responded with a two-run blast from Julia Kwakernaak for a 2-1 lead.

"I think we knew we were going to face a good team," Kwakernaak said. "We were seeing the ball well and doing what we are supposed to be doing in the field."

"I was focused on staying on top of the rise ball, which is what I got. Hitting that in the first inning sets the tone right away and it was a big moment for us in terms of staying in the game."

Haley Primrose (24-4) held the Eagles scoreless from the second inning to the fifth, allowing her offense to generate a 7-1 advantage. The senior right-hander tossed a complete game and allowed five runs on nine hits. She struck out five.

Kilee Moody, Kwakernaak, and Primrose had RBI knocks in the second. Madi Baker drove in a run with a fielder's choice. Primrose's hit was a two-run double to drive in the fourth and fifth runs of the inning.

Kwakernaak and Primrose both drove in a trio of runs.

After an RBI triple in the fifth from the Eagles, a sacrifice fly from Primrose plated Moody. Kwakernaak later scored on a wild pitch.

The Eagles brought in three more in the seventh on a one-out three-run home run, but could not complete the comeback.

LSUA advances to take on one-seeded Our Lady of the Lake at 4:00 pm on Saturday, May 3, from Wildcat Park.
