Women's Soccer Falls to Mobile

ALEXANDRIA, LA – The Louisiana State University of Alexandria women's soccer lost to the University of Mobile, 2-0.

"Have to give credit to Mobile," LSUA Head Coach Mark Hammond said. "I think that we shot ourselves in the foot a little bit, but you still have to go and beat 10 players, so credit to them [Mobile] for going and doing so. I can't really fault the girls; I thought it was a decent performance."

LSUA had the contest's first three chances with shots from Linnéa Lundstroem and Sacha Backus. Mobile's (1-0-0) first chance came in the 33rd, a shot sent over the crossbar.
The Generals were forced to play with 10 players after a last-player back red card in the 35th minute.

"After going down to 10 in the first half, I cannot speak higher of the girls that went out there and put in the shift in the heat," Hammond added. "Being a player down, we stuck to the game plan and battled. It's a credit to them, after going a player down, they didn't just say we're just going to defend for 60 minutes."

Yanira Herraez was called into action for the first time in the 36th minute, denying a chance from Andi Hughes. Two minutes later, Herraez stymied another opportunity from Hughes.

"Shout out to Yanira in goal with a player down," Hammond added. "I thought she was fantastic and helped us get through some tough moments."

Mobile's first goal came in the 54th minute. Bailey Bronner's free kick found Becca Ryan in the box for a 1-0 lead.

The Generals peppered the Rams in the second half, outshooting Mobile 7-3, but did not find the back of the net. In the final 16
minutes, Fenja Leibner put two shots on goal, which were turned aside by Sarah Polk. Alexia Bermejo Jo put a shot on goal in the 85th, forcing Polk into action once again.

Evellyn Borges gave the Rams an insurance goal in the 85th minute. She took a cross from Kaithlyn Chavez and slipped into the near post for a 2-0 lead.

LSUA hosts No. 6 Tennessee Southern on Wednesday, August 27, at 10:00 AM.
