ALEXANDRIA, LA – After a long weather delay the (RV) Louisiana State University of Alexandria men's soccer team recorded a 4-0 clean sheet over Wiley University.
"It's good to close out the non-conference slate with a win," LSUA Head Coach
Mackenzie Young said. "We start 5-1-0, pretty impressive for the boys. I think on another give day we could have been 6-0-0, but credit to Southwestern Christian for that game. It's important to rest up some guys as we head into next week, we've had a tough preseason. It's also important to get some guys who haven't had the chance to get some minutes that have been doing well."
The Generals (5-1-0) are off to the best start in program history. They outshot the Wildcats (2-2-1) 14-6. Ten of LSUA's shots came in the first half.
Gabriel Marin broke the 0-0 scoreline in just the fourth minute. Pablo Dominguez de León slid a ball across the box and a sliding Marin sent it home for a 1-0 lead.
In the 23
rd minute, Dominguez notched his third goal of the year.
Rhys Fuller played a through ball for Dominguez on the wing who slipped it past the keeper.
Less than three minutes later,
George McKenzie struck. Dominguez played a pass to
Javier Moscardo who, in turn, immediately swung the ball into the box where it was met by McKenzie. His first chance was stymied by the keeper, but McKenzie buried the rebound for a 3-0 lead.
LSUA's final goal came from
Federico Gilardi in the 68
th minute.
Archie Sugg's corner was deflected by a defender and collected by Gilardi. He slipped it near post for the 4-0 advantage.
The Generals open Red River Athletic Conference play at home on Thursday, September 25, at 3:00 PM against Southwest (N.M.)
