(RV) Men's Soccer Completes Comeback With 3-2 Win Over Southwest (N.M.) in RRAC Opener

ALEXANDRIA, LA – The (RV) Louisiana State University of Alexandria men's soccer team came from behind for a 3-2 win over the University of the Southwest (N.M.) in their Red River Athletic Conference opener.

The Generals (6-1-0, 1-0-0 RRAC) outshot the Mustangs (1-3-1, 0-1-0 RRAC), 15-10. They recorded nine of their chances in the second half.

"Again, 3-2 against Southwest," LSUA Head Coach Mackenzie Young said in reference to last season's match against USW. "We go down a couple times and have to claw our way back. It's never easy when we play Southwest. They're well-coached, they're a good team, they know who they are and have some good players up top; especially Chacon. He hurt us last year and he hurt us again this year. Overall, pleased with the resiliency of the guys to go down a goal, come back, and go down again, to have the courage and the bravery to go out and get two more, not give up and feel sorry for themselves and come away with three points."

In the first 30 minutes the Mustangs have five shots, four of which were high or wide, while one was blocked. LSUA had one shot but kept the pressure on, generating five corners.

Yahir Chacon broke the deadlock in the 31st minute. He collected a long pass from Juan Perez and slipped a shot past the keeper for the 1-0 lead.

The Generals responded nine minutes later. Juan Buitrago got a pass through to Ben McCarron, who beat the keeper for the equalizer.

Nicolas Amparan put Southwest ahead in the 53rd minute, collecting a loose ball and racing his way into the attacking third. He finished his chance and put the Mustangs ahead 2-1.

LSUA responded again in under 10 minutes. The game's second equalizer came from Diego Cadabón. Buitrago picked up his second assist of the evening as Cadabón finished his second goal of the season.

Just five minutes later, Buitrago put his name in the ledger. He found the ball near the far post from close range after a shot from Pablo Dominguez de León was stopped by Stephen Chairez and fed it inside the near post for the game-winning marker.

Dominguez de León, Paul Adler, and Mackenzie Vincent each had a shot stopped by Chairez in game's final segment as the Generals searched for insurance. Chairez made seven saves throughout the match.

Chacon's attempt at an equalizer in the 83rd minute was stymied by Ivan Capurro. The Generals' keeper finished with two saves.

LSUA is at home again on Saturday, September 27, as they host Texas College in their second RRAC match of the season. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:00 PM at the Generals Soccer Field.
