SAN ANTONIO, TX – Four player scored in double digits as the Louisiana State University of Alexandria men's basketball bounced back with a 79-62 win over Texas A&M-San Antonio in a Red River Athletic Conference game.
"Good bounce back win by our players," LSUA Head Coach Dimario Jackson said. "It's fun to coach and watch when we play our brand of basketball. We have to have short-term memory and get ready for the next game."
The Generals (9-6, 6-3 RRAC) were led by
Kaleb Pouncy's 14 points. He shot 5-for-7 from the field and went 4-for-5 from the free throw line. He also recorded a team-high four blocks.
Jordan Decuir (12),
TJ James (10), and
Javon Smith (10) also recorded double digit points. The Generals recorded 42 points in the paint, 26 points off turnovers, and the bench recorded 31 points.
Antwone Gonzales led the Jaguars (4-12, 3-7 RRAC) with 14 points, while Dezmon Dudley recorded 12.
The Jaguars took the lead early in the first and extended their advantage to eight, 20-12, with 9:32 left in the opening period. Three minutes later, a layup from James and three from
PD McCraney cut it to 26-25 TAMUSA. A dunk from James two possessions later tied it, 27-27. Another three from McCraney gave LSUA the lead but a layup from Felix Greif cut the lead to one.
A free throw from
EJ McQuillan and a three from
Talib Ferrette, as time expired, sent LSUA into the break with a 34-30 lead.
Over the first five minutes of the second, TAMUSA chipped away and cut the Generals' lead to one, 40-39. An 8-0 run from LSUA pushed their lead to nine, 48-39. They reached the 10-point mark with a pair of free throws from Pouncy with 10:05 left.
From there, the Generals pushed their edge to 19, their largest lead of the game, and cruised for the final six minutes.
LSUA has a trio of games next week. They travel to Xavier (La.) on Tuesday, before hosting Southwest (N.M.) and North Texas-Dallas.
