TEXARKANA, TX – The Louisiana State University of Alexandria women's basketball team fell to Texas A&M- Texarkana, 70-56.
"Tough loss tonight," LSUA Head Coach Billy Perkins said. "Texarkana came out and played a good game. We just could not get anything going."
Justice Young led the Generals (9-11, 8-7 RRAC) with 10 points.
Kelly Norris recorded eight points, while both
Cameron Sutton and
McKayla Price tallied seven. LSUA recorded 26 points in the paint, 12 points off turnovers, 11 second chance points, and the bench recorded 24 points. The Generals shot just 40-percent from the field.
The Eagles (12-7, 11-3 RRAC) were led by a trio of players in double digits. Imani Rothschild and Breyionce George both recorded 14 points. Eleionna Brown came off the bench to tally 12. TAMUT converted on eight chances from long range.
Texas A&M-Texarkana led for the entirety of the game. They opened the game with an 8-2 run in the first 90 seconds. The Eagles reached their first double-digit lead, 17-6, with 3:17 left in the first quarter.
A jumper from
Sydney Person with 1:20 left in the quarter, after a pair of free throws from Young, sent LSUA into the quarter break trailing by seven, 19-12.
The Eagles out scored the Generals 19-9 in the second quarter, taking a 17-point lead into halftime. They reached a 20-point lead with a three from Rothschild in the third quarter, 48-27.
Free throws from
Lila Lewis and a layup from Sutton in the quarter's final 35 seconds made it a 54-40 game heading into the final period.
LSUA outscored TAMUT 35-32 in the second half.
The Generals are on the road on Saturday, January 31, in Shreveport to take on LSU Shreveport at 1:00 PM.
