Six-Run Inning Propels No. 20 Softball Over A&M-San Antonio in 6-2 Series Clincher

SAN ANTONIO, TX -- A six-run sixth inning propelled the No. 20 Louisiana State University of Alexandria softball team to a series win over Texas A&M-San Antonio, 6-2.

"Really proud of how the girls responded and competed," LSUA Head Coach Trent Partridge said. "We felt all game that one run would be enough with Lainee in complete control. We were able to manufacture that run with some small ball in the sixth inning and once we broke through it really started our scoring."

Sari Travis and Lainee Bailey (11-4) put together a pitchers' duel through the first five innings, keeping both offenses off the scoreboard.

In the sixth, Alyssa Soileau reached base with one out and stole second. A throwing error allowed Kilee Moody to reach and Soileau to advance. A second error a batter later allowed Soileau to score and put runners on first and third again.

Livie Thibodeaux then reached on an error, Moody scored, and the Generals (21-12, 13-2 RRAC) led 2-0.

With runners on second and third after three consecutive errors, Kamille Lightfoot roped a pinch-hit double to center field plate Thibodeaux and Sophia Romero for a 4-0 lead and chased Travis from the game.

Haley Fontenot welcomed Krisilyn Corral by lacing the first pitch she saw into left for a single. Two batters and an out later, a two-out double from Jillian Howell drove in Fontenot and Caitlyn Riche for a 6-0 lead.

The Jaguars had just four base runners through the first five innings. They drew a pair of four-pitch walks to start the inning. Cate Nettles came on in relief and forced a fly out to deep center, putting runners on the corners after Kristianna Luerra advanced to third. Anissa Rodriguez stole second to put two runners in scoring position for Lauren Lopez. Lopez lined out to second, putting LSUA just one out away from escaping without allowing a run.

A wild pitch on ball four to Emily Palacio allowed Luerra to score from third and put runners on the corners.

Kirsten Martinez shut down the Jaguars' attempted sixth-inning rally, notching a swinging strikeout to end the inning.

In the bottom of the seventh, after opening the inning with a ground out, the Jaguars picked up three consecutive hits to load the bases. They plated a single run on a ground ball to the right side but the Generals recorded the inning's second out.

Samantha Hayes forced Corral to roll over to short, sealing the victory for LSUA.

The Generals return home for a four-game series against Our Lady of the Lake University on Thursday, April 2, Friday, April 3.
