ALEXANDRIA, LA – A 13-run first inning propelled the Louisiana State University of Alexandria softball team to a 15-3 win over Red River Rival Louisiana Christian University in the series opener.
The Generals (29-14, 21-4 RRAC) totaled eight extra base hits in the first inning alone. It took seven hitters before the Wildcats (22-21, 12-13 RRAC) recorded the first out.
Kilee Moody drove in both
Haley Fontenot and
Sophia Romero with a double center before
Kaetlyn Dunbar doubled her home.
Lainee Bailey hit her first home run of the inning a batter later – the first hitter to face Katelyn Carpenter. After back-to-back walks to
Jillian Howell and
Molly Sistrunk,
Caitlyn Riche laid down a sacrifice bunt and
Alyssa Soileau drove in Howell with a sacrifice fly. Fontenot then singled home Sistrunk in her second at-bat of the inning. After Romero reached on a fielding error, Moody drove in her third run of the inning with a single. Dunbar then welcomed Clare Gauthreaux to the game by roping a two-run double to right center for a 10-0 lead.
Bailey then launched a 3-1 offering over the left field wall, her second home run of the first inning. Howell followed with a double and then scored on Sistrunk's double, chasing Gauthreaux from the game. Addison Bailey was able to end the onslaught for LCU after 17 hitters.
The Wildcats scored three runs in the third on a bases clearing triple from Lexi Broussard.
LSUA added two in the fourth.
Rylie Jeau Theriot led off the inning with a pinch-hit solo home run. Romero later drove in Fontenot with a single to center field for a 15-3 lead.
Lainee Bailey,
Cate Nettles,
Samantha Hayes, and
Alyssa Soileau all pitched for the Generals. Moody and Bailey drove in four runs each. Dunbar and Fontenot collected a trio of hits.
The Generals take on Louisiana Christian tomorrow, April 25, for a Senior Day doubleheader starting at noon. LSUA will honor their seven seniors prior to first pitch at 11:30 AM.
