Baseball Falls in RRAC Opening Round Finale, 9-6, to A&M-Texarkana

ALEXANDRIA, LA – The Louisiana State University of Alexandria baseball team was eliminated from the Red River Athletic Conference Championship by Texas A&M-Texarkana, 9-6.

A pair of home runs from Ahmar Donatto and Michael Caputo gave the Eagles (29-23) a 3-0 lead after the first two innings. They added three runs to their total in the fourth on a bases-loaded walk, hit by pitch, and then a wild pitch.

The Generals (33-15) broke through in the fourth. Cade LaBruyere singled in Colina Ardoin, cutting the deficit to 6-1.

James Provenic drove in a run in the sixth for the Eagles before Colton Wombles hit a sacrifice fly to right to make it 8-1 Texarkana.

LSUA pushed two across in the seventh. LaBruyere led off with a double down the right field line and scored on an RBI single up the middle from Cameren Parks. After advancing to second on a passed ball, Parks scored on a single from Dalton Wilson.

Nash Tamplet set the Eagles down in order on just eight pitches in the eighth, sending the Generals' offense out. Shae Thibodeaux took a pitch to lead off the inning before Evan Rohlfs-Schadel singled to center. A ground out from Lane Patin moved both runners into scoring position. LaBruyere came through again for LSUA, driving in both with a single to left and cutting the score to 8-5.

The Eagles added one additional run in the ninth on a triple from Tanner Duncan.

Lane Kratzer led off the ninth with a single up the middle and moved up 90 feet on a wild pitch. With two outs, Brett Batteford singled through the left side to put runners on the corners. Patin followed with an RBI single to right center, bringing the tying run to the plate. The Generals were unable to complete the comeback as Matthew Hart forced a hard grounder down the first base line.

Michael Sutton (8-4) was charged with the loss. He allowed six earned runs over 3.1 innings of work. Remi Rountree (3-2) earned the win for the Eagles. He threw six innings of one-run ball. Hart earned the save. LaBruyere finished 3-for-5 with three runs batted in. Wilson went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
