#2 Softball Drops NAIA Opening Round Game to #3 College of Idaho, 7-4

CHICKASHA, OK – The two-seeded Louisiana State University of Alexandria softball team fell to three-seeded College of Idaho in their first game of the NAIA Opening Round, 7-4.

Kaetlyn Dunbar finished 3-for-3 at the plate with an RBI. Jillian Howell and Julia Kwakernaak also recorded an RBI. Lainee Bailey (17-7) was charged with the loss. She allowed seven runs over five innings.

Kwakernaak put the Generals (34-17) on the board with an RBI double in the second inning. The 1-0 lead was erased quickly, however, by the Yotes (35-20).

Madelyn Powell tied the game in the top of the third with an RBI single. Lena Zahniser followed with a sacrifice fly for a 2-1 lead. Isabella Fazzio finished off the scoring with a double to right, driving in Powell.

LSUA's offense went back to work in their half of the third. An RBI double from Dunbar cut the deficit to 3-2 before a wild pitch allowed Kilee Moody to score from third to tie the game. Howell then singled and brought in Dunbar from third for a 4-3 lead.

Another multi-run inning from the Yotes in the fifth propelled them to the win. A solo home run from Audrey Sweet to lead off the inning tied the game. After a fly out, Powell singled up the middle and scored three batters later on a two-out single from Chloe Flerchinger. Hallie Campbell followed with an RBI double of her own to make it 7-4 with both Fazzio and Flerchinger scoring.

The Generals will play five-seeded Friends University (Kan.) tomorrow, May 12, at noon.
