Romero Sets LSUA Single Season Stolen Base Record as #3 Softball Picks up 10-1 Win Over #5 Friends

CHICKASHA, OK – The two-seeded Louisiana State University of Alexandria softball team bounced back from last night's loss in the NAIA Opening Rounds with an offensive explosion in a 10-1 win over five-seeded Friends University (Kan.).

The Generals (25-17) scored in each inning they came to bat, including three consecutive multi-run innings to close the game. Kilee Moody drove in a team-high four runs, while Lainee Bailey hit a pair of home runs and drove in three. LSUA collected 13 hits as a team

Moody opened the scoring in the first with an RBI ground out to drive in Sophia Romero from third. In the second, Bailey hit her first home run of the game – a solo shot to right field. Ryleigh Moran later came in to score on a throwing error when Jaycie O'Conner stole second to make it 3-0 after two innings.

The Generals pushed across four runs in the third inning. Moody came through again, driving in Romero with a single to left. Kaetlyn Dunbar followed with a double to right, driving in Moody. Bailey then took the first pitch she saw over the center field wall for a 7-0 lead.

Friends (31-22) found the scoreboard in the fourth on an RBI ground out from Regan Witt.

In the bottom of the fourth, Romero stole second and Alyssa Soileau scored on a throwing error. Moody then launched a two-run blast to make it 10-1.

Romero's stolen base sets a new LSUA single season record for stolen bases at 46. She has been thrown out just three times. Romero eclipses Brooke Thomas, who set the record in 2015 with 45 stolen bases.

Rylee Guillot (11-1) threw four innings of one-run softball. She allowed just three hits and struck out two. Samantha Hayes threw a perfect inning of relief to finish the game.

The Generals face four-seeded Morningside (Iowa) at 6:00 PM in an elimination game.
