Moody Drives in Five as #1 Softball Downs #5 A&M-San Antonio, 7-6

PINEVILLE, LA – The top-seeded Louisiana State University of Alexandria softball team advanced to 2-0 in the Red River Athletic Conference Softball Championship with a 7-6 victory over five-seeded Texas A&M-San Antonio in a game which crept past midnight.

Kilee Moody drove in five runs for the Generals (33-14) and Lainee Bailey (16-5) collected the win. Bailey tossed six innings and allowed four runs on nine hits. She struck out four.

A three-run home run in the third from Krisilyn Corral opened the scoring with a bang. The Generals, however, responded immediately with four runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning.

Sophia Romero notched an RBI single before Moody roped a two-run double to right. A throwing error allowed Kaetlyn Dunbar to reach and Moody to score, giving LSUA a 4-3 lead.

An inning later, Moody cleared the bases with her second double of the game, driving in Romero, Haley Fontenot, and Molly Sistrunk.

The Jaguars attempted to mount a comeback, pushing across a run in the fifth and two more in the sixth. A pair of RBI singles from Jordyn Henry and Emily Palacio, alongside a double steal, plated three runs to cut the Generals' lead to 7-6.

After being relieved for the sixth, Bailey went back to the circle and rolled a trio of ground balls to secure the win.

LSUA plays at 4:30 PM on Sunday, May 3, against the winner of Our Lady of the Lake and Texas A&M-Texarkana.
