ALEXANDRIA, LA – The Louisiana State University of Alexandria men's soccer team bounced back after their season opener on the road to capture a 2-1 win in their home opener against Texas Wesleyan.
Ben McCarron scored both of the Generals (1-1-0) goals in the victory. Arcel Zambrano scored the Rams' (0-2-0) lone goal.
The first nearly 29 minutes of the match saw the Generals generate a pair of headed efforts from
Pablo Novoa Martin and
Genis Alcaide Armengol. Novoa's header forced Rams' keeper Rafael Dos Santos into action off a corner from
Lucas O'Donnell in the seventh minute.
Nathaniel Neang took the Rams' first shot but it was blocked by a member of the Generals' backline. Selmane Azibi then sent a chance wide right two minutes later.
In the 29
th minute, McCarron notched the Generals' first goal of the season on a penalty. He cut across the box and was tripped up on the dive from Dos Santos. He converted the penalty for a 1-0 lead.
Just six minutes later, McCarron struck again.
Shay Meagher slipped a pass through the Rams' defense to McCarron who slipped his chance towards the far post and over the line.
McCarron nearly added a third in the 44
th minute, but was turned away from Dos Santos.
In the second half, McCarron had a pair of shots on goal, while O'Donnell added one.
The Rams' goal came in the 85
th minute. Zambrano collected a pass from Peter Tenorio and placed a low shot just inside the near post to cut the score to 2-1.
LSUA forced a late corner to secure their first victory of the season.
The Generals are at home again on Sunday, August 30, as they host No. 10 Bethel University (TN) at 2:00 PM.
