ALEXANDRIA, LA – The Louisiana State University of Alexandria women's soccer went down to the wire but came away with a 4-3 win over Bethel University (TN), 4-3.
The Generals (2-2-0) held a 14-8 advantage over the Wildcats in shots, including a 9-2 advantage in the back half.
Tinotenda Taurai opened the scoring log, taking a pass from Jacqueline Carbajal and sliding her shot past the Generals' keeper in the eighth minute.
Taylor Carty responded eight minutes later.
Paula Suarez played a short pass to
Juana Bulla, who one-timed a hrough ball for Carty. She beat the keeper low to level the score.
Just after the second half restart, LSUA struck again. Sara Escribano Garcia-Miguel sent a cross from the wing which caromed off the Wildcats' keeper.
Carolina Anjos Pereira made a sliding effort to bury the ball from point blank to make it 2-1.
The Wildcats equalized in the 54
th minute. Rose Boichat found the back of the net off a corner from Luiza Kilmeyers Rodrigues.
Three minutes later, it was Suarez's chance to answer. After a corner skipped through the box, Bulla sent a cross back to the middle where Escribano touched it on to Suarez, who beat the keeper for a 3-2 lead.
An 81
st minute red card to the Generals put them down a player and awarded Bethel a penalty. Addison Schumacher converted the pen, levelling the score at 3-3.
Just over two minutes later, Escribano was dragged down in the box to setup a penalty for LSUA.
Nelly Dallmann stepped to the spot and sent it through for the 4-3 lead.
A late corner from the Wildcats was snuffed out by the Generals' defense. Escrbiano then had a shot turned aside by Mari Carrico in the waning minutes as LSUA held the 4-3 lead for the victory.
The Generals are on the road on Thursday, September 3, as they travel to William Carey University for a 6:00 PM kick-off.
