Hammond- Tonight the LSUA women's basketball team faced up with D1 opponent, Southeastern falling 27-73.Ā
Ā
The Lions came out of the tip off clawing away at the Generals holding them to only 4 points in the first quarter which came from a free throw by
Dannah Martin-Hartwick and a three-pointer from
Jewel Jones. The Generals, still hopeful and playing with a lot of effort came out of the 1
stĀ quarter holding the Lions to 15 points and out rebounding them 9-7.
Ā
However, as the game continued LSUA struggled shooting the ball, connecting on just 21.7 percent of their shots, including going 1-19 from the 3-point range, while turning the ball over 27 times.Ā
Ā
Despite the score, sophomore
Jewel Jones had a big game coming off the bench for the Generals. Jones was the leading scorer on the night scoring 10 points, grabbing 5 rebounds, and even came out with 3 steals.Ā
Ā
"I feel like we played decently," said Jones, "I know we could have played better because I go to battle with these group of girls every day in practice. Offensively I thought that we could have taken more shots than we did and better choices on the shots that we did take."
Ā
Jones also stated that playing a D1 team is helpful for many reasons. "It helps us to see where we are at compared to higher competition, exposing the areas we need to work on, and helps make us stronger physically and mentally both individually and as a unite".Ā
