PREVIEW | Women's Basketball Travels to Sunshine State

ALEXANDRIA, La. – The Louisiana State University of Alexandria women's basketball team travels to Florida for a pair of non-conference games against St. Thomas University and Ave Maria University.
 
"We are headed to Florida this week," LSUA Billy Perkins said. "First up, St. Thomas University on Thursday and Saturday we have Ave Maria University. It is going to be a tough road trip. Both teams are solid on defense and execute on offense. Both teams are in the top of the Sun Conference in Florida. It is going to be a challenge but we just have to play our game."
 
The Generals (2-0) are coming off a 71-68 victory over the University of Mobile. Dannah Martin-Hartwick earned RRAC Offensive Player of the Week honors after averaging 22 points over two games last week.
 
SCOUTING ST. THOMAS (FLA.)
The Bobcats are 1-0 on the season. They won their only game of the season, 83-64, over Florida National University.
 
Katrina Little led the Bobcats with 19 points in the victory. Sophie Vandyke (17), Ra'Nae Tumblin (16), and Maddie Scharrenberg (11) all scored in the double digits. Vandyke led STU with 11 rebounds. The Bobcats shot 50.9 percent from the floor and 45 percent from deep. They outrebounded FNU, 52-35. St. Thomas tallied nine steals and four blocks.
 
Last season, St. Thomas finished 21-9 with a 10-5 mark in the Sun Conference.

SCOURINT AVE MARIA UNIVERSITY
The Gyrenes are 1-0 after recording an 84-52 victory over Kuyper (Mich.). They finished the 2023-24 season with a record of 21-10 and were 10-4 in Sun Conference play.
 
Mary Smith came off the bench to lead the Gyrenes with 13 points. Gianna Santacroce tallied 11, while Ashley Chilson scored 10. Santacroce was the only starter against Kuyper to reach double digits in scoring. Ave Maria shot 41.3 percent from the floor. The Gyrenes out rebounded Kuyper 41-30, with all but one player recording at least one rebound.
 
Ave Maria averaged 69.13 points per game last season and held opponents to 64.19. The Gyrenes shot 39.8 percent as a unit and held opponents to a field goal percentage of 36.5.
