Generals Advance to RRAC Semifinal with 4-3 Win Over TAMUT

ALEXANDRIA, La. – A pair of goals from Sofia Jimeno Nogué gave the Louisiana State University of Alexandria women's soccer team the 4-2 over the fifth-seeded Texas A&M-Texarkana Eagles in the Red River Athletic Conference Quarterfinal match.

"It was always going to be what it was today," LSUA Head Coach Mark Hammond said. "Pitch is wet, it's muddy, it was always going to be a ding dong. For us, I think we deserved it, I think we had four really good quality goals. The girls showed the mentality and the grit, the desire to continue to go."

The Eagles out shot the Generals 18-13, but LSUA held the edge in shots on goal 9-8.

Victoria Weber made five stops, including three in the second half.

Hille Baumfalk opened the scoring in the 9th minute. She moved into close range and slipped a shot past the keeper. The Eagles tied the game at 1-1 seven minutes later on a goal from Desiree Narvaez.

Less than 60 seconds later, Jimeno Nogué was called to the penalty spot. She converted the penalty to give LSUA a 2-1 lead.

The Eagles were quick to strike back. Two minutes after Jimeno Nogué gave the Generals a lead, Alexia Lara levelled the score with a goal of her own.

All four goals came before the 20-minute mark.

It wasn't until the 44th minute when the deadlock ended. Jimeno Nogué took a pass from Baumfalk and put her shot off the inside of the post for a 3-2 lead.

Sach Backus gave the Generals so much needed breathing room in the 74th minute, burying a chance for a 4-2 advantage. Alexa Bermejo Jo recorded an assist and has etched her name in the record books as the LSUA all-time leader for assists.

The Eagles weren't quite done, however. An 86th minute goal from Rylie Williams cut the score to 4-3. The Eagles had a corner kick in the 87th minute, in search of the equalizer, but the Generals cleared their lines.

LSUA's victory advance the Generals to the semifinals in Texarkana, Texas. They play the No. 1 seed, LSU Shreveport.
