ALEXANDRIA, La. – The Louisiana State University of Alexandria women's soccer team open Red River Athletic Conference play with a 0-0 draw against crosstown rival Louisiana Christian University (1-3-2, 0-0-1).
"For us, we have to hold ourselves accountable," LSUA Head Coach
Mark Hammond said. "We didn't do enough to win the game, we had enough chances but we didn't do enough. We have high standards and we didn't meet them today."
The Generals (1-3-1, 0-0-1) finished with 12 shots, one of which was on goal. The Wildcats finished with 11 shots with four on goal.
Victoria Weber (1-1-1) made four stops on the afternoon.
LSUA opened the game with a pair of shots from
Alexia Bermejo Jo and
Hille Baumfalk prior to the 10-minute mark.
Weber was called into action for the first time in the 15
th minute, keeping a shot from Zoi Arkirvaki out. Three minutes later, she parried a hance from Emma Monnet.
The final 15 minutes of the first half was devoid of shots.
Elke Tijink and
Micaela Nunes each had an early chance in the second half. Tijink's shot was blocked by a defender. Nunes' shot whistled just over the crossbar.
Weber made her third save of the evening in the 70
th minute, as she was tested again by Monnet. The 88
th minute saw another save from Weber, styming a shot from Maria Alonso.
With 10 seconds left in the match,
Ksenija Pavlovic took possession and broke free from the Wildcats' back line. She sent a shot goalward but time expired before it crossed the goal line.
The Generals are back at home on Thursday, September 26, as they face Paul Quinn at 1:00 PM.
