ALEXANDRIA, La. – The Louisiana State University of Alexandria baseball team heads on the road for the first time in 2025 to take on No. 21 Loyola New Orleans.
"Going to Loyola is always a tough task," LSUA Head Coach Kody Gautreaux said. "I believe they are one of the best teams in the country and have been in the top 25 for many years now. We will have to go and compete as hard as we can and execute at a high level if we want to have success."
The Generals (2-2) are coming off a four-game weekend against No. 12 Kansas Wesleyan and No. 13 Mid-America Christian.
Blaise Foote was named RRAC Baseball Player of the Week. Foote slashed .385/.500/.923, drove in six runs, and scored five over four games against No. 12 Kansas Wesleyan and No. 13 Mid America Christian this past weekend. He hit a pair of home runs against No. 12 Kansas Wesleyan. His first home run came in the bottom of the sixth inning of game one against the Coyotes. A two-run shot which put the Generals ahead 2-1. His second blast came in the bottom of the sixth of game two, as part of an eight-run comeback. The Generals won game two 11-10. Foote then drove in a pair in game one against No. 13 MACU on Saturday with a two-run double in the sixth.
SCOUTING NO. 21 LOYOLA NEW ORLEANS
This weekend's series is the season opener for the Wolf Pack. They finished 2024 with a 37-19 record, including an 18-12 mark in SSAC play. Their season ended in the NAIA National Championship Opening Round against Saint Francis (Ind.).
The Wolf Pack hit .313 as a unit last season. They hit 27 home runs and drove in 381 runs.
Jaxon Buratt returns to the lineup after leading the Wolf Pack with a .432 average over his freshman campaign. He posted an on-base percentage of .558 and stole 18 bases in 21 chances. He drove in 38 runs and scored 63. Senior Jake Mills also returns for Loyola. He hit .368 in 2024, driving in 40 runs, and scoring 35. The Wolf Pack's leading home run hitter, Collin Zeringue, also returns after hitting eight home runs and driving in a team-high 58 runs in 2024.
Loyola's top arm, Stephen Still, graduated after he posted a 10-2 record over 15 starts in 2024. He hurled 84.1 innings and posted an ERA of 3.42. He struck out 93 hitters, walked 22, and held a WHIP of 1.13. Returning for the Wolf Pack is sophomore Prescott Marsh. He posted a 3-1 record over 10 starts. He held an ERA of 3.91 and a WHIP of 1.30. Marsh struck out 26 hitters and walked only eight over 46.0 innings.
The Generals are 6-12 against the Wolf Pack since 2019. They have lost the last five games against Loyola.
First Pitch is scheduled for 5:00 PM on Friday, January 31, and 1:00 PM for the doubleheader on Saturday, February 1.
