STAFFORD, TX – The Louisiana State University of Alexandria women's soccer team won their fourth straight match with a 2-0 victory over North American University.
The Generals (8-6-0, 6-1-0 RRAC) dominated possession throughout the match and bombarded the Stallions (1-12-1, 1-5-1 RRAC) with 20 shots. LSUA's back line held North American to just a single shot.
"It was just about getting the job done today," LSUA Head Coach
Mark Hammond said. "It was a different challenge for us, travelling on the day of the game and playing at night but we still got the job done."
The Purple and Gold wasted no time finding the scoring ledger. A foul in the Generals' attacking third setup a dangerous free kick and
Fenja Leibner capitalized, unleashing a laser into the back of the net for a 1-0 lead in just the sixth minute.
Leibner's goal was her second of the season and the second scoring chance of the contest for the Generals.
Ariana Lowenstein had the first chance two minutes earlier but was denied by Arely Sarabia.
Yanira Herraez made her only save of the game in the 32
nd minute. She turned away a shot from Genevieve Colon. Herraez earned her third win and second clean sheet of the season.
Over the first half,
Alexia Bermejo Jo,
Audrian Cruz,
Maria Portas,
Abril Cobos, and Sara Escribano Garcia-Miguel registered shots. Cruz, Bemerjo, and Leibner each recorded a shot on goal.
Early in the second half, Sarabia was called into action again to make a pair of saves against Cruz and Escribano in just under three minutes.
The Generals besieged the Stallions in the second half, forcing NAU into their own half, and recording five shots from the 60
th to 77
th minute.
"We knew we had to get on the ball and play today," Hammond said. "The tough thing about playing against a team in the low block is you have to keep possession, be patient, and pull them out of position and play into the gaps. I think we did that well at times today."
In the 73
rd minute,
Jacqui Guillermo found Linnea Lundstroem in the box. Lundstroem chested the ball to her feet and buried a chance from close in for a 2-0 lead.
Sacha Backus and
Nelly Dallmann tacked on the Generals' final two shots of the game in the game's final five minutes.
LSUA heads to A&M-Victoria on Saturday for another RRAC match. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 PM in Victoria, Texas.
