ALEXANDRIA, LA – The Louisiana State University of Alexandria baseball team opens Red River Athletic Conference play against Xavier University of Louisiana on Thursday, February 13, and Friday, February 14.
 
"It's always exciting to start the opening weekend of conference play," LSUA Head Coach Kody Gautreaux said. "Xavier has always been a tough team that will play hard for all three games. We have to execute our plan and get good in all phases of the game if we want to be successful this weekend."
 
The Generals are 4-7 on the season. They won their latest outing over Indiana University Kokomo on a walk-off homerun by Luke Benoit, 8-6, in the final game of the Cajun Collision.
 
SCOUTING XAVIER (LA)
Xavier (La.) enters the week with a record of 1-2. They opened the season against the United States Sports Academy and won the third and final game of the series.
 
Zion Morris led the Gold Rush's offense in the first series. He posted a slash line of .364/.417/.545 over three games. Morris recorded a pair of doubles and is tied for the team lead in runs scored with four. He swiped three bases in three attempts. Matt Adams and Lawrence Steed lead the Gold Rush with three RBI each. Xavier (La.) is hitting .222 as a team and has scored 17 runs.
 
On the mound, Hunter Wheaton and Jeremy Clark each posted five innings of scoreless work in their respective starts. Wheaton allowed two runs, both unearned, on two hits. He struck out four and walked three. Clark allowed four hits, one unearned run, and struck out five. Opposing hitters posted an average of .111 against Wheaton and .211 against Clark. Colby Henderson earned the Gold Rush's lone win. He hurled four innings of relief work and allowed one run on two hits. He fanned four hitters and walked one. Xavier has a team ERA of 4.15 and a WHIP of 1.65.
 
The Generals are 9-2 against the Gold Rush all-time.  Xavier (La.) has won the last two meetings. LSUA is 5-3 when playing at home against XULA and are 8-2 in the last 10 meetings.
 
First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 13. First pitch on Friday, February 14, is scheduled for noon at the Generals Baseball Field.
