ALEXANDRIA, LA – The No. 10 Louisiana State University of Alexandria women's tennis team (5-3) shutout Texas A&M-Texarkana (9-6), 5-0, in their opening match of the LSUA Tournament.
"The girls played well," said. LSUA Head Coach
Melinda Descant. "It was a little windy. Texarkana always has a very solid team every year but the girls did really well today. I'm proud of them."
In doubles,
Nahia Echaide and
Joline Roesch defeated Emmanouela Besi and Ana Gonzalez, 6-1, in the top pairing.
Kanu Rajawat and
Gianna Panaggio took down Andrea Castillo and Adrianne Guangko, 6-3, in No. 2 Doubles. In the final doubles pairing,
Belen Blasco and
Isabella Stuurman recorded a 6-0 victory over Meghan Connolly and Tatum Sikes.
Echaide notched a 6-2 win over Gonzalez in No. 1 Singles. Rajawat captured a 6-1, 4-6, [10-5] win over Besi in No. 2 Singles. Panaggio won 6-2, 6-1 over Guangko in No. 4 Singles. Stuurman took down Connolly 6-1, 6-0 in No. 5 Singles.
Both Blasco and Roesch recorded 8-0 pro set victories over Castillo and Sikes, respectively, at No. 3 and No. 6.
LSUA takes on LSU Shreveport on Saturday, March 29, at 1:00 p.m. at the LSUA Tennis Courts.
