PREVIEW | Tennis Heads to Mobile for 44th Annual UTR Sports NAIA National Championship

Presented by Raising Cane's Chicken Fingers

ALEXANDRIA, LA – For the 10th time in program history, the Louisiana State University of Alexandria women's tennis team is headed to the UTR Sports NAIA Women's Tennis National Championship.

"I'm proud of the girls," LSUA Head Coach Melinda Descant said. "We've had very successful teams throughout the years. These girls have worked really hard again this year. I felt this year was going to be more of a rebuilding year and they've really surprised me; we've done better than I thought. It's very exciting to be going for the 10th time."

The Generals (8-5) received an at-large bid. LSUA is 10-9 all-time in NAIA National Championship matches. They enter the 2025 tournament as the ten-seed. Play begins on May 13 at the Mobile Tennis Center in Mobile, Alabama.

The Purple and Gold take one 23-seeded Bethel (Ind.) at 9:00 am on May 13.

Nahia Echaide and Kanu Rajawat earned First Team All-RRAC honors last week. Rajawat was also named the RRAC Freshman of the Year.

The Generals recorded RRAC wins over LSU Shreveport 4-3, Xavier (La.) 4-2, and Texas A&M-Texarkana 5-0. They also defeated SCAD-Savannah, 4-1, who entered the tournament as the eight-seed, and eighteen-seeded William Woods 7-0. Xavier (La.) made the tournament as the 13-seed

Bethel enters the tournament as the only undefeated team with a record of 16-0. They finished 8-0 in the Crossroads League. It is the first time the Pilots have earned an automatic bid in program history.

"Bethel is going to be tough," Descant added. "When you get into the National Tournament, everyone is good. We are looking forward to it."
