WAXAHACHIE, TX – The Louisiana State University of Alexandria women's soccer team fell to Nelson University, 3-2, on the road.
"Disappointing result and performance," LSUA Head Coach
Mark Hammond said. "We didn't show up until 70 minutes into the game. You cannot do that against any side at this level. The frustrating this is we still had the chances to get a result today while only showing up for 20 minutes. Credit to Nelson University as they capitalized on our poor start."
Sara Escribano García-Miguel and Linnea Lundstroem tallied goal for the Generals (1-4-0).
Yanira Herraez made a pair of stops in goal.
Delaney Murphy made eight stops for the Lions (1-1-1) in net. Damaris Solis found the back of the net twice for Nelson. Stephanie Hernandez also scored once.
Hernandez found the score sheet first. She notched the game's first goal in the 20
th minute. Solis scored the next two, finishing in the 29
th and 40
th minutes.
LSUA's goals both came in the second half. Escribano García-Miguel got loose from the defense and notched the Generals' first goal in the 71
st minute. Lundstroem's goal came in the game's dying throes when she beat the keeper with under a minute left.
"It's always a huge ask to try to claw back from 3-0 at half time," Hammond added. "Today was an eye opener for us. We have 10 days to get ready for another big test against MACU. We need to back to work on the training ground to be better so we can move forward."
The Generals take on Mid-America Christian University on Thursday, September 11 for their next match. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
