Women's Soccer Blanks Southwest (N.M.) in RRAC Opener, 7-0

ALEXANDRIA, LA – The Louisiana State University of Alexandria women's soccer team opened Red River Athletic Conference play with a 7-0 victory over the University of the Southwest (N.M.).

The Generals (3-5-0, 1-0-0 RRAC) had six different goal scorers and fired double digit shots in each half. They finished with 27 total shots and held the Mustangs (0-7-0, 0-1-0 RRAC) to just six. LSUA put 15 of their shots on goal.

"We were fantastic today," LSUA Head Coach Mark Hammond said. "We challenged the girls to start strong. We had a lot of goals we wanted to achieve in the first 15 minutes and we came out and blitzed them."

Meike van Straten made a pair of saves for the Purple and Gold to earn her second win and clean sheet.

Ariana Lowenstein notched her third goal of the year in the 10th minute. Audrian Cruz slipped a through in behind the defense where it was collected by Lowenstein. She finished her chance by sliding her shot just under the crossbar for an early 1-0 lead.

Just over 10 minutes later, Sara Escribano García-Miguel doubled the Generals' lead. Justice Richardson played a long pass to Escribano who beat the charging goalkeeper with a low shot. Escribano added a second goal in the 43rd minute. She picked up a loose ball in the attacking third and beat the keeper low for a 3-0 lead heading into halftime.

In the 48th minute, after rattling around the top of the 18, the ball caromed out to Maria Portas who lobbed a shot under the crossbar for her first of the season.

Less than a minute later, Richardson made it 5-0. The Mustangs' keeper couldn't secure a loose ball, which allowed Lowenstein to take possession just outside the post. She fired a pass to Richardson for a one-timer and a 5-0 lead.

Nelly Dallmann added a penalty goal 80 seconds later, her second goal of the year.

LSUA's final goal came from Taylor Carty in the 57th minute. Linnea Lundstroem played Richardson onto the wing. Richardson then sent a cross in to Carty who one-timed her shot for her first career goal.

Richardson, Portas, and Carty all scored their first career LSUA goals.

The Generals are back at home on Saturday, September 27, for their second RRAC match of the season against Texas College. Kickoff is at 1:00 PM at the Generals Soccer Field.
