Baseball Drops Opener to Southwest (N.M.), Game Two Suspended Due to Darkness

Box Score 1 HOBBS, NEW MEXICO – The Louisiana State University of Alexandria baseball dropped game one with University of the Southwest, while game two got suspended due to darkness.
 
GAME ONE | SW 16, LSUA 12
LSUA (17-9, 6-4 RRAC) falls to the University of the Southwest (8-18, 3-6 RRAC) in game one of the series, 16-12.
 
Dalton Wilson helped the Generals get on the board with a double to right field, bringing in Trevor Dooley and Cade LaBruyere in the first inning. The Mustangs jumped out with three runs, taking the 3-2 lead early on.
 
Continuing to add to their advantage, the Mustangs scored a run in the second before Mark Gonzales delivered a two-run home run later in the inning extending the lead to 6-2.
 
Lane Patin scored one run for the Generals in the top of the third, but Southwest kept the pressure on, plating two more runs in the third and three in the fourth to build a 11-3 lead. In the fifth, another run was added by Dong Joon Shin and right after that Carlos Jaquez hit a three-run double, pushing the Mustangs to 15-3.
 
The Generals responded in the sixth with a big rally. Landon Langley homered to left field bringing in Lane Kratzer. Another two runs were brought in by Colin Ardoin and Joshua Tinnerello after fielding errors. Dooley added a two-run double, and Langley later delivered a single, making the gap shorter to 15-11.
 
Southwest scored a solo home run in the sixth pushing the lead back to five. Evan Rohlfs-Schadel added a solo homer in the seventh for the Generals to close the gap.
 
Miguel Olivas took the win on the mound for the Mustangs, pitching 5.0 innings, after facing 27 batters, striking out two and allowing eight runs.
 
On the Generals side, Michael Sutton took the loss on the mound after 1.2 innings pitched, 13 batters faced, and allowing seven hits and six runs.
 
GAME TWO | SW 17, LSUA 23 (SUSPENDED - DARKENESS | TOP 9)
The Generals erupted early in game two, plating seven runs on five hits. Still in the first inning, Dong Joon Shin drove a ball to second base that allowed Kacson Anderson to score and put the Mustangs on the board.
 
LSUA continued their momentum in the second, adding two more runs before extending the lead even further in the third with four runs. Joshua Tinnerello singled to right center, to bring Dalton Wilson home, and a few pitches later, a Fischer Einkauf fly out to center field allowed Blake Moss to score. In the third, Wilson homered bringing in Trevor Dooley, Cade LaBruyere, and Lane Patin.
 
The Mustangs responded back with one run in the third and six runs in the fourth, closing the gap to 13-8.
 
LaBruyere homered to right center in the fifth. Southwest came back with three runs in the fifth.
 
Dooley scored one in the seventh and Shae Thibodeaux scored in the eight followed by Patin scoring on a wild pitch giving the Generals a bigger lead of 17-12.
 
Southwest came back to tie the game in the eight, scoring five runs making it 17-17.
 
The Generals scored six runs in the ninth before the game was halted. LaBruyere started with an RBI walk which brought Tinerello to home plate. Later on, Dooley reached first on a fielding error allowing Brett Batteford and Geoffrey Fontenot to score. Wilson added on with a single up the middle bringing in Dooley and LaBruyere. Tinnerello finished it off for the Generals with a single to second base allowing Wilson to touch home plate.
 
The game was suspended in the ninth due to darkness and will resume in its current state tomorrow at noon prior to first pitch of game three.
