ALEXANDRIA, LA- The Generals are now 9-3 in Red River Conference play after completing a sweep over the Steers of Texas College taking game one 8-2 and game two 9-0.
The Generals had a rocky start this season as they had to learn new coaches and find a way to mesh as a team, however with an 8-game win streak making a statement in conference, that's just what they seem to have done.
Here's what interim Co-Head Coach Trent Partridge had to say about the turn around the Generals have had and expectations for the remainder of the season:
When we were first hired, we only had 18 days before the first game, and knew we had a tough decision to make. Our hitting approach was slightly different than what the girls were used to, and we knew that it would take some time to understand and adopt. Our goal was to be ready for conference play. We were okay with striking out and taking some losses in the beginning, as long as we were learning the new approach.
We've also had one of the toughest non-conference schedules in the country, we had a 10-game stretch where we played only teams in the Top 25, but we competed so we knew it was just a matter of time before things started clicking. As it stands right now, we currently lead the conference in conference play in batting average, and our goal is to continue to put up double digit hits a game. If that happens, I don't expect this winning streak to end anytime soon.
Senior,
Lauryn McMahon also has high expectations for the rest of the season and how she would like to end her career as a General.
"We have a goal this season; we want to take it all", said McMahon, "Conference is the first challenge we face to meet that goal, so we came in guns blazing. We have a young team with a lot of energy and grit that will get us there. I plan to end my career as a national champion, and we have everything it takes to get there".
The Generals will be back in action, looking to keep their strong run-in conference play going, at home on March 31
st as they take on the Rams of Huston Tillotson. First pitch is set for 2:00 PM.
